Why your website is not bringing you customers (and how to fix it)

Many companies have paid for a website, are happy with how it looks, and get no clients from it. That is almost never a design problem. It is a function problem: the site was not built to turn a visitor into a conversation. Here are the seven causes we find in almost every audit.
1. Nobody finds it
A website does not bring visitors by existing. If it is not declared to search engines, if it has no pages matching what people actually type, and if it is cited nowhere, it stays invisible.
Immediate check: type your company name into Google, then type what a client who does not know you would type — for example your trade followed by your city. If you do not appear in the second case, that is where the problem sits.
2. It does not say what you do
“Innovative solutions serving your performance” means nothing. A visitor must understand in one sentence your trade, who you work for and where. The most effective wording is also the simplest: what you do, for whom, in which city.
3. It is too slow
This is the most common cause and the quietest. Your visitors arrive on mobile, often on an unstable connection. A site heavy with uncompressed images loses a large share of them before the first paint, and those visitors will never write to complain.
Check: open your site from your phone on mobile data, not wifi, and count the seconds until the text is readable.
4. It does not offer a next step
A phone number in small type in the footer is not a call to action. On every page, the visitor must be able to start a conversation in one gesture, on the channel they already use — which in Benin means WhatsApp.
5. Nobody answers on the other side
This is the most painful point, because it cancels everything else. A site that generates ten requests a month of which seven go unanswered brings in nothing. The problem is no longer the site: it is the absence of a handling chain behind it.
6. It does not inspire trust
Stock photos, no address, no completed work, a form that confirms nothing after submit. A visitor who doubts will not tell you; they will leave. Trust is built with verifiable elements: a real address, real faces, real work, complete legal notices.
7. Nobody measures anything
Without a measurement tool, you do not know how many people visit your site, which page they enter through, or where they drop off. So you make every decision blind, including the decision to rebuild the site — often with the same mistakes.
Your twenty-minute audit
- Search your trade followed by your city on Google. Do you appear?
- Open your site on your phone on mobile data. How many seconds before you can read?
- Show the homepage to someone from outside for ten seconds, then ask them what you do.
- Count the clicks needed to write to you from any page. More than one is too many.
- Send yourself a request through your own form, and time the actual reply.
- Check that you have a measurement tool installed and that someone looks at it.
In which order to fix things
The order matters, because some corrections are free and immediate:
- Handling incoming requests. There is no point attracting more people if you do not reply. Start there: it is the cheapest fix.
- Speed and the WhatsApp button. Fast technical corrections, immediate effect on contacts received.
- The homepage message and the proof. Writing work, not development.
- Measurement. To stop deciding in the dark.
- Content pages and search visibility. That is the longer work, the one that produces results over several months.
Note that rebuilding the site does not appear on this list. In most cases it is not necessary: a sound base can be corrected and completed for far less than a redesign. A rebuild is justified when the technical stack is blocking, not when the design is three years old.
That is exactly what we look at during our diagnostic: we measure, we list what is blocking, and we tell you what can be fixed without rebuilding. You can see our offers or ask for a free diagnostic.
